Presbyterian churches are governed by the session, which is similar to the church board in other denominations. The congregation elects leaders to the session. These leaders are called elders, regardless of their age. A unique feature of being Presbyterian is that our elders are ordained to their work in a service similar to the ordination of clergy. Although elders serve three-year terms of leadership, their ordination is for life.
